Entry level education / special licences / warrants
There are no specific educational requirements to work as a Hand Packer, although a qualification at MQF Level 2 may be required by some employers.
Qualifications awarded by foreign bodies need to be recognised or pegged with a particular MQF Level by the MQRIC office within NCFHE.
For related training offered by other educational institutions, it is advisable to consult the list of accredited courses on the NCFHE website.
On-the-job training is usually offered by the employer.
Knowledge and skills
Hand Packers are expected to have:
• Knowledge of production and documentation practices
• The ability to accurately record details of work carried out
• Understanding of quality procedures
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures
• The ability to repair and maintain equipment,
systems and machines
Transferable skills should include:
• Written and verbal communication skills in Maltese and/or English
• The ability to follow instructions
• Numeracy skills
• Time management skills and the ability to
adhere to tight deadlines
• The ability to work independently and as part
of a team
Additional qualities
These may include:
• Attention to detail
• Efficiency
• Hand-eye coordination
• Manual dexterity
• Physical stamina
• The ability to concentrate for extended
periods of time
• The ability to work in a methodical manner
