For Category C and CE applicants must be 21 years or 19 years if in possession of CPC Initial Qualification Certification
Additionally, Drivers who transport dangerous goods are required to undergo the Dangerous Goods Driving Training in order to comply with ADR requirements. The ADR Vocational Certificate is valid for 5 years.

On-the-job training is usually offered by the employer.
Knowledge and skills
Heavy Truck and Lorry Drivers are expected to have:
• Driving skills and road safety awareness
• The ability to plan the route according to
requirements
• An accurate sense of direction and
comprehensive visual memory
• Knowledge of the Maltese highway code,
regulations and legislation relevant to
drivers and driving
• Cash handling skills
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures
Transferable skills should include:
• Interpersonal skills
• Written communication skills in Maltese and/
or English
• Numeracy skills
• Time management skills and
• The ability to work under pressure
• The ability to work independently
