Knowledge and skills
Upholsterers and Related Workers are expected to have:
• The ability to carry out cover tailoring, measuring, cutting and sewing tasks
• The ability to work with different upholstery materials, including leather, plastic, fabric and other textiles
• The ability to differentiate between colours
• The ability to estimate the duration of a job
• The ability to use a variety of tools including
staple guns, fasteners, sheers, hot knife
cutters, glue guns and pliers
• Budgeting and financial skills (in case of
self-employment)
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures
Transferable skills should include:
• Communication skills in Maltese and/or English
• Numeracy skills
• Customer care skills
• Organisational and planning skills
• Problem solving and decision making skills
• Time management skills and the ability to
work under pressure and adhere to tight
deadlines
• The ability to work independently
