Knowledge and skills
Butchers are expected to have:
• Knowledge of the product
• Knowledge of different cuts and grades of
meat
• Knowledge of how to prepare and cook
different types of meat
• The ability to work comfortably with raw meat
• Deboning skills
• Creativity and awareness of how to present
and display meat
• Knowledge of how to use knives and other
butchery equipment safely
• Selling skills
• Business and commercial skills (in case of
self-employment)
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures
Transferable skills should include:
• Interpersonal skills
• Communication skills in Maltese and/or
English
• Customer care skills
• Numeracy skills
• Planning and organisational skills
• Decision making and problem solving skills
• The ability to work independently and as part
of a team
• The ability to work under pressure and in a
