Few Athletes and Sports Players progress from amateur status to professional status. Professional Athletes typically have a short career, although this depends on the physical demands of the particular sport.
Knowledge and skills
Athletes and Sports Players are expected to have:
• Technical and tactical knowledge of the sport practiced
• Knowledge of the rules of the sport
• An understanding of the strategies involved
• The ability to understand competitors’ game
strategies and determine strengths and
weaknesses
• The ability to remain updated with regards to
technical and tactical advancements
• The ability to assess a situation in a quick

• The ability to be mentally alert and decisive
